Chipper is an experienced internet operator, investor, and advisor currently based in NY. He is a co-founding partner of Firestartr, a London-based seed-stage investment platform helping over 35 promising entrepreneurs build global leading companies across fintech, marketplaces, new media and cloud/SaaS. Chipper’s main current focus is in Fintech, with investments including: Transferwise, Railsbank, Wagestream, AngelList, Pantera, and Yoyo Wallet. He is an independent Board member for Railsbank since 2016, and a founding member both of NYU’s Endless Frontier Labs accelerator, and London-based Seedcamp. He is also active with investments in the blockchain space and as an advisor to a crypto fund.
Chipper previously led Corporate Strategy for eBay in Silicon Valley developing their first mobile strategy and spearheading over $3 billion in strategic acquisitions, including Skype. As a partner at McKinsey & Co in Hong Kong, he co-founded McKinsey’s global Mobile Commerce Initiative and was a partner in McKinsey’s Corporate Strategy & Finance practice, notably as lead advisor for China Netcom on a private placement from Goldman Sachs. Chipper also also co-built Booz-Allen’s Jakarta office and was a key thought leader for its practice serving conglomerates in SEAsia and Korea. He started his career as an R&D engineer in fiber-optic telecommunications with Rockwell.
Chipper has an AB in Physics from Harvard, an Advanced Certificate in Mathematics from Cambridge, and an MS in Management from MIT. He has pretty evenly split his career across Asia (Hong Kong and Singapore), Europe (Paris and London), and the US (Silicon Valley and NYC), and is a dual French/American national. He enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 sons, playing keyboards in a rock n roll band, and wish he had more time to play squash and scuba-dive.
